The traditional non-surgical treatment of
facial wrinkles has consisted of Hyaluronic Acid dermal fillers such as Restylane, Perlane, and Juvederm. They are useful for filling
facial wrinkles, folds and lines quickly and can last for up to 12 months (Perlane). However, they are only a temporary solution and do not treat the underlying cause of facial aging, which is volume loss of the deep fatty tissue layer of the face.
SculptraAesthetic is made up of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). It is a biocompatible product that has been used in absorbable sutures for over 30 years and has been used in Europe for cosmetic purposes for over 20 years. It is used as an injection and works to stimulate the body to naturally replace lost collagen (protein) that occurs in the deep fatty tissue layer of the face after age 30. Up to three (3) injections are used, separated by at least 6 weeks. The results are not noticable immediately after treatment, but can take up to 3 months to notice improvement which continues for up to 1 year and lasts up to 2 years.
