Choosing to have plastic surgery is an important decision, and so is selecting a plastic surgeon. Whether you are considering cosmetic plastic surgery to improve your appearance or reconstructive plastic surgery to correct defects or improve function, planning your surgery and talking with your surgeon will help you know what to expect.
What can I expect?
Before you have plastic surgery, you will meet with Dr. Christopher Prevel for a consultation. During the consultation, you will discuss your goals. A consultation is designed to evaluate your individual case and to fully inform you of all the treatment options, relative outcomes and potential risks associated with the procedures you are considering. He will examine you and advise the best procedure to achieve your desired results.
Before undergoing surgical treatment requiring sedation or general anesthesia, a full medial history including diagnostic tests is recommended. part of this medical history requires that you provide candid answers to questions about your general state of health, including:
• A full disclosure of health history, including any illness, prior surgery of any kind and complications from prior surgery
• All types of allergies, and any reaction to prior anesthesia
• Current medications, the use of vitamins, herbal supplements, alcohol, tobacco and drugs
• The use of oral contraceptives by women
You will be asked to sign consent forms prior to surgery, to assure you fully understand the procedure(s) you will undergo and any risks and potential complications. It's important that you directly ask any questions you have, and that those questions are answered to your full understanding. Don't hesitate to ask us about anything that is on your mind; we are committed to answering all of your questions and attending to your comfort and safety.
At the Florida Plastic Surgery Institute, we strive to:
• Answer all of your questions thoroughly and clearly
• Ask for your reaction to recommendations
• Offer alternatives, where appropriate, without pressuring you to consider unneeded or additional procedures

• Leave the final decision to you
